This is the list of the tallest trees in the world. The exact location of these trees is kept secret for fear of tourists. The highest three redwoods in the world are also the three largest plants that currently live on Earth. They are descendants of trees that grew on Earth millions of years ago and survived the Pleistocene period in areas not affected by glaciation. They formed a tertiary forest there along with metasequoia, magnolias, ginkgos, and tulip trees. They are one of the oldest plants on Earth. Some of them are older than two thousand years, therefore they play an extremely significant role in the dendrochronology of the North American continent.

General Sherman has about 2.5 to 3,000. years and is now 83.8 meters high, eleven meters in diameter at the base, with a volume of about 1487 m³ and a weight of about 1200 tons (or 1910 tons depending on the counting system). The thickest branch that broke in 2006 was 2 m in diameter.
General Sherman was named probably in 1879 thanks to the biologist James Wolverton. In 1886, the place where the tree grows was taken by the Kaweah community, following the principles of socialism. Its members changed the name of the tree to … Karl Marx, but with the creation of the Sequoia National Park, the original name of the tree was restored.
